located just outside of cordoba, the ruined site of Medinat al zahra; fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace-city built by Abd-ar-Rahman III al-Nasir, Ummayad Caliph of Córdoba.
at its peak(which was short lived ) this palace represented the symbolic peak of muslim power and knowledge in Spain(and arguably the world). every thing that followed the fall of this location was downhill from here(in terms for the Muslims haha).
Of course after countless years of destruction, warfare & salvage, it is a complete ruin nowadays, nothing left except for a few arches, in fact i was even more surprised about what was left, and a little disheartened!
It is very sad that the palace is ruined, monuments of Islamic culture in Spain are known for their beauty and complexity. It is a great pity that so much was destroyed but still you managed to make a very good photo of this ruin, it has a lot of character. I wish I could visit southern Spain one day... Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much! Its true the best way I can describe it is bitter-sweet; to see all the remnants of a bygone age and all the destruction and changes that happened over time!
