another shot from the Mosque of Ibn Tulun.

Legend has it that ibn Ţūlūn himself was accidentally responsible for the design of the minaret: supposedly while sitting with his officials, he absentmindedly wound a piece of parchment around his finger. When someone asked him what he was doing, he responded, embarrassed, that he was designing his minaret.

also Parts of the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me were filmed at the Mosque.

Ah, the actual tower design is quite famous because of its uniqueness, actually the tower here is a copy of the famous 8th century Samarra mosque in Iraq, and the one you linked is probable a copy considering its location and "modern" appearance.

OK. Thanks for the info. Is the Samarra mosque still standing or is that the one that was damaged?
